Actual charging power is limited by the weakest link. A 200 kW-limited EV connected to a 2,250 kW station does not become a 2,250 kW-charging car.
What is the difference?
| Number | What it describes |
|---|---|
| Charger rating | Maximum power the charging hardware can make available under its stated configuration. |
| Vehicle peak charging power | Highest power the vehicle accepts under suitable conditions. |
| Average charging power | Average power across a useful charging window; often more useful for trip time. |
| C-rate | Charging power relative to battery capacity. |
Why Geely's 2,250 kW announcement makes this important
Geely's September 2026 Smart Charging announcement lists a fifth-generation station with peak charging power of 2,250 kW. At the same event, Geely said its 12C Shendun Golden Battery in Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 test vehicles charged 10–70% in 4 minutes 30 seconds and 10–97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds. Those are different types of claims: one describes the station, while the others describe vehicle-and-battery charging performance under test conditions.
What limits the car?
- Battery chemistry and cells: determine how rapidly energy can be accepted safely.
- State of charge: peak power usually occurs only in part of the charging window.
- Temperature: a hot or cold battery may request less power.
- Voltage and current: power is voltage × current; very high power requires high voltage, high current or both.
- Cooling: battery, cable and connector thermal limits matter.
- BMS and software: the vehicle actively requests and limits charging power.
Why the charging curve matters more than one peak number
A vehicle might touch a spectacular peak for a short period but spend most of a 10–80% session below it. For buyers, compare the actual 10–80% time and, when available, the average power across that window rather than ranking cars by peak kW alone.
Where does 12C fit?
C-rate relates power to battery capacity. In simplified terms, a 95 kWh pack at 12C corresponds to about 1,140 kW. A station can therefore have a much larger headline rating than a particular battery pack's peak acceptance.
What should Saudi/GCC buyers check?
High ambient temperatures make thermal management especially relevant. Check the vehicle's published charging window, whether battery preconditioning is available, the power of compatible public chargers in your market, and whether the advertised charging performance was measured under conditions comparable with GCC use.

Charging claims should always be read with their starting/ending state of charge, temperature, battery capacity and compatible charger conditions.
