Tesla unveiled its redesigned second-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026, demonstrating a prototype that briefly lifted into the air using compressed-gas thrusters and drove on an inverted surface using a suction system. These demonstrations do not mean the flight equipment is approved for public roads. Consumer production is targeted for 2028, not confirmed to have begun.

Performance vs Thrust vs Rocket: what's different?

Important: Reservation deposits are not purchase prices. Tesla did not announce final vehicle pricing at the reveal.

Acceleration, speed and range: claimed vs independently tested

Tesla demonstrated a sub-one-second 0–60 mph run; reports describe a 0.81-second displayed result. This is a demonstration, not an independently certified production-car performance test. Tesla representatives also described a top speed exceeding 230 mph (370 km/h) and range of more than 300 miles (about 480 km), but final certified range and production specifications are not available.

How can a car briefly fly?

The prototype uses high-pressure compressed gas released through thrusters to generate force and a fan-based suction system to increase adhesion. A controlled demonstration does not establish safe or legal operation on public roads. Flight, hovering and inverted driving are experimental capabilities, not ordinary road-car features.

When will the Tesla Roadster be released?

Tesla targets production in 2028 following several earlier missed timelines. Final delivery dates, homologation, country availability and prices remain unconfirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Can the new Tesla Roadster fly?

A prototype briefly flew in a controlled demonstration. Its flight system is not approved for public-road use.

How much will the 2028 Roadster cost?

Tesla has not announced final retail pricing. Deposits should not be confused with the price of the car.

Is the 0.81-second acceleration figure independently verified?

No. It is a reported demonstration result, not a certified production specification.
