BEV vs REEV: why the G9L is unusual
XPENG is launching the same flagship model with both a conventional battery-electric drivetrain and a range-extended electric option. In an EREV/REEV, the electric motors remain central to propulsion while an onboard combustion engine can generate electricity to extend usable range. The exact global powertrain mix may differ by country.
VLA 2.0 and Physical AI
XPENG says the G9L is powered by its VLA 2.0 model for intelligent driving and uses the same Turing AI chip family as its IRON humanoid robot. XPENG frames this as part of its “Physical AI” strategy, applying a shared AI foundation across vehicles and robotics.

Why the global launch matters
XPENG says the G9L has undergone road testing across 26 countries and regions for more than 6.74 million km. The company also says it has completed 192 crash tests across Euro NCAP, ANCAP, C-NCAP and CIASI protocols. XPENG plans production in Guangzhou and at Magna's Graz plant in Austria.
Saudi/GCC status
