Momenta Robotaxi in Abu Dhabi and Dubai: What Is Confirmed?

Momenta's Mercedes-Benz S-Class Level 4 robotaxi project in Abu Dhabi, testing status, planned Dubai expansion and the difference between ADAS and driverless service.

Status, October 2, 2026: Momenta is testing in Abu Dhabi and is targeting Dubai for expansion. Do not confuse Momenta's project with other operators' already permitted driverless taxi services in the UAE.

What changed in September 2026?

Momenta's robotaxi business told Reuters on September 30 that it aims to expand into Dubai and European cities and grow to thousands of robotaxis next year. Reuters reports Momenta testing in Abu Dhabi, Munich and five Chinese cities. A target is not a confirmed Dubai public launch date.

Mercedes-Benz, Momenta and Lumo in Abu Dhabi

In December 2025, Mercedes-Benz, Momenta and UAE taxi company Lumo announced a luxury Level 4 robotaxi project based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The partners described planned Abu Dhabi operations in 2026, powered by Momenta's R6 reinforcement-learning model. Confirmed testing and partnership announcements should not be presented as proof that unrestricted public rides are already available from Momenta.

Momenta R6 and the ADAS-to-robotaxi data flywheel

Momenta develops production driver-assistance software and scalable robotaxis. It says its R6 reinforcement-learning model and shared architecture allow data and technology to support both advanced driver assistance and Level 4 autonomy. An ADAS-equipped consumer car still requires driver supervision; a Level 4 robotaxi operates without human driving within its approved operational design domain.

Can you book a Momenta robotaxi in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

As of this update, Momenta's Dubai expansion is a target, not a confirmed bookable service. Abu Dhabi has already authorized Level 4 commercial services from other operators, including WeRide/Uber/Tawasul and AutoGo/Apollo Go, but those permits should not be attributed to Momenta.

Why it matters for Gulf mobility

The UAE is becoming a test market for multiple Chinese autonomy developers. Momenta's approach also illustrates how production-vehicle ADAS, reinforcement learning and robotaxi software can share a development pipeline.
